Privacy policy
Last updated [DATE]
Our Orbit is a shared travel journal. This policy explains what we collect, why, where it’s kept and the choices you have. In short: your trips are private unless you choose otherwise, we don’t show ads, and we don’t sell your data.
Our Orbit is run by [YOUR NAME OR COMPANY], [ADDRESS]. If you have a question about your data, email support@ourorbitapp.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, used to send you sign-in codes. There are no passwords.
- Your profile: your name, @username, bio and profile photo (if you add one), and whether your account is private or public.
- Your trips: trip names, dates, the places you went, who’s on each trip, and whether a trip is private or public.
- Your moments: what you write, the date and time, and a location if you choose one.
- Your photos: resized for the app, with their hidden location and camera details removed before upload. If a photo had a location, we keep it separately so the people on that trip can see where it was taken. It is never shown to anyone else.
- Who you follow, who follows you, and anyone you block.
- If you join our launch list: your email address.
We don’t use advertising or analytics trackers, and we don’t collect your location in the background. The app only reads a photo’s date and place when you add that photo.
Who can see your things
- Private trips (the default): only the people on the trip.
- Public trips: everyone, if your account is public; only followers you’ve approved, if your account is private.
- Your name, photo, bio and counts are visible to anyone signed in to Our Orbit, unless you’ve blocked each other.
- Exact photo locations are only ever visible to the people on the trip.
Where it’s kept, and who helps us run Our Orbit
- Supabase stores your account and journal, and runs sign-in. Our servers are in London, UK.
- Cloudflare stores your photos (Cloudflare R2) and hosts this website.
- Resend sends the sign-in codes we email you.
- Photon by Komoot powers place search. Searches go through our server, so Photon never sees who you are.
- Apple distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight.
These companies only use your data to provide their service to us. We never sell your data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- When you delete a moment or photo, it’s deleted.
- When you delete a trip, it waits in Recently deleted for 14 days so you can restore it, then it’s gone for you. If other people were on it, they keep a read-only copy.
- If someone removes you from a shared trip, or you and its owner block each other, you keep a read-only copy of it as it was. If you leave a trip yourself, it’s gone for you.
- Launch-list emails are kept until we’ve sent the launch email, then deleted.
Deleting your account
Email support@ourorbitapp.com from the address you sign in with and we’ll delete your account and everything in it within 30 days. You’ll soon be able to do this yourself in the app’s Settings.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. Email us and we’ll reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Age
Our Orbit is for people aged 16 and over.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
